No Appraisal For You…
Yesterday it was very interesting, a gentleman came into the store to do an appraisal, something we do all the time. We looked at all of his items diamond jewelry 3 items total, when asked if he had any certificates for his diamond engagement ring he had none. Why did you not get an appraisal from the store you purchased these items from?
His reply was typical for the store in question has always operated this way this store will remain nameless, but we have seen some of the worst customer service coming out of this place. So we are not surprised at his answer which was ” I got a receipt.” He spent 9,000.00 on this diamond jewelry, and did not know he should get an appraisal, most people do not , and most jewelry store give one with your gem stone purchase you need it if you want to insure your jewelry.
He went on to say that he had been at the jewelry store that he bought the items from, and they had sent him to us, he wanted to insure his jewelry, and was told by his insurance agent that he needed the appraisal. We then told him to go back, and demand his appraisal that he should have gotten it when he bought the items. I do not understand why you would not want to do an appraisal the only reason we can come up with is this store is afraid of being suede, it would not be the first time.
After going back to the store, and telling them that he had been at our store, and was told that he should have gotten the appraisal when he purchased the diamond jewelry, and that we told him to demand the appraisal they relented. We have seen this before from this store they do not like to put anything in writing, they do not like to put their name on paper, its easier when you go to court, and say that they never bought from you in the first place, but this guy had a receipt that proved he spent that money with them. They had no choice, but to do what he asked, it will be done in a couple of days.
The gentleman came back to thank us for our help, and said if you did not tell me I would have never known, he went on to say that most jewelry stores would have just charged him to do the appraisal, and never would have let him know to go back, and get what he had a right to. It was a nice way to start the day you see its not always about making money, sometimes its about doing the right thing.
